The 2021 Lung Foundation Australia Christmas card has been designed by Geoff Augustine.
Cartoonist Geoff Augustine, known for his daily comic strip “Ossie” in newspapers during the seventies and eighties, was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in 2018.
“The shockwaves of diagnosis triggered the need for humour,” Geoff says. “Creating cartoons gives me happiness, positivity, and a mental strength to confront cancer ‘head on.” Through finding the humour in his situation, Geoff says Karen and his family are more ready to communicate, joking about the taboos of cancer and finding relief in laughing. He hopes his daily Instagram cartoons and ‘Why is he Laughing? A Cartoonist’s Journey with Cancer’, his book of cancer-related cartoons encourages others to do the same.
